Injuries can be serious

Last weekend in one of our junior games, one of our players sustained and injury that saw him leave the field on a backboard and in an ambulance. It is not the first injury to be sustained by a BG player and it most certainly won’t be the last. Every week players get injured in football games across the coast, across the state … (you get the idea). Injuries happen.

Sometimes they occur accidentally … heads clash, ankles get twisted. Sometimes, however injuries can happen because someone does something silly on the field. No matter the reason for the injury last week, it served as a good reminder to players about why there are rules about what you can and cannot do on the field. There are rules put in place to try and reduce injuries and while players may get caught up in the excitement of the game, remember that there are consequences to your actions and sometimes they can be serious.

It certainly was brought home last week about how serious consequences can be. Unlike an Xbox or PlayStation game, when you get injured you cannot “respawn” or have a fellow player “revive” you. Sometimes you are going to hurt, you are going need medical assistance to hep you recover.

Thankfully our injured player has recovered but we urge all payers to THINK about your actions. It might sound tough to talk about “taking a player out” … but what does that mean … how would you feel if because of your actions someone was seriously hurt.

Lets all go out there have fun, play our best but play safe.
